Hayneville, AL- With summer fast approaching, more families are looking for opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors and take advantage of the wonderful weather. On Sunday, May 5, the Council on Substance Abuse-NCADD (COSA-NCADD) presented families from Lowndes County and surrounding areas with that opportunity by hosting their first Family Fun Day.

This goal of Family Fun day was to increase the awareness and access to the local resources available to families in rural communities. The event was free and open to the public.

“This event is meant for families to come together and participate in outdoor games and activities,” said Patricia Brown, Program Coordinator, COSA-NCADD. “It gives them the opportunity to have a fun-filled day and receive educational resources on substance abuse, addiction and other related issues.”

The Mosses Housing Authority was transformed into a giant play area complete with board games, crafts, cake walk, outdoor bowling and much more. Local radio station Hot 105.7 was on location broadcasting live with Lady Cha-Cha.

Family Fun Day highlights included pizza and snacks for attendees, gaming stations for Uno, Monopoly, Trouble, Life and Connect Four, a bean bag toss contest and a friendly water balloon fight. Children 12 and under participated in a cake-walk and teenagers and adults had the opportunity to win tickets to a Montgomery Biscuits game.
