Understanding Adolescent Addiction Training

Course Description:
This course covers two topics: Generation Rx-Adolescent Development and Parenting Styles, and United States of Numb-Current Trends in Adolescent Substance Abuse. Gen Rx covers physical, cognitive, social development and parenting styles contributing to substance abuse as well as the progression of the disease and treatment of adolescents. United States of Numb covers all current trends including the new synthetics and marijuana products coming from Colorado; large display of drug paraphernalia also shown.

Course Objectives – Participants will:
A. understand all aspects of adolescent development
B. understand parenting styles that contribute to substance abuse and mental health issues
C. understand adolescent use, progression and recovery strategies for this age group
D. understand current adolescent drug use patterns
E. understand signs and symptoms of adolescent use as differentiated from adult use and as differentiated from psych issues

Target Audience: School personnel, juvenile justice personnel, medical professionals, private practitioners, agency professionals

Registration/CE
There is no cost for this training. A total of 3.5 contact hours are available through the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners and National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). In addition, Bradford Health will offer continuing education hours to nurses and counselors through the Alabama Board of Nursing and the National Board for Certified Counselors.Denise Chapman Auditorium
