Prevention 101

1-hour ‘lunchtime’ training.

Contact Hours awarded. (1 Continuing Education Unit earned for Social Workers.)

This class is designed for those who work within the Behavioral Health Field and or those who are interested in understanding Prevention 101.

Prevention is understood as any activity designed to avoid substance abuse and reduce its health and social consequences through various activities or methods that seek to reduce or deter specific or predictable problems, protect the current state of well-being, and promote desired outcomes or behaviors. This training is designed to communicate the importance of the science of prevention to be effective in deterring substance use before it occurs. The training will also explain how early intervention strategies work hand in hand to promote informed decisions and healthy choices.

Key learning objectives:
Participants will gain an understanding of the risk and protective factors that place individuals at risk/not at risk for substance abuse

Participants will receive a brief overview of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) and how it works within communities who are engaged in preventing substance abuse

Participants will gain an understanding of the different Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) strategies used to help prevent substance abuse.
