The Alabama Opioid Assistance (AOA) Project is a collaboration between COSA and the Alabama Department of Public Health, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division. The goals of the AOA Project are to (1) decrease the number of opioid and heroin overdose deaths in the identified counties of Alabama and (2) increase the number of overdose victims and families who request information and are referred to and/or access treatment and recovery support services. Project activities include:

  • Naloxone (Narcan) distribution and training to licensed EMS/First Responders across the state
  • Wraparound recovery support services (recovery meetings, housing and employment assistance, community referrals, recovery planning, life skills, and recreation/social activities)
  • Prevention education
  • Distribution of materials and resources
